Apostille or Authentication Certificate

Legalisation of signatures and/or seals on Australian public documents. The Apostille/Authentication will be attached to the original document. Cost is per Apostille.

From 1 February 2023 only original hard copies of Australian Federal Police clearances can be legalised. When applying for a police clearance from AFP you need to request a hard copy. Laminated or damaged documents will be refused for legalisation. Replacements will need to be obtained from the issuing authority.

Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage

The Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) is a document stating that there are no laws prohibiting an Australian citizen marrying in their country of choice. The certificate does not state whether the applicant is, or has been, previously married. The single status certificate is only issued by the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Australia. Cost is per CNI issued. Valid passports for both parties is to be provided along with divorce certificate if applicable.

Certifying copy of an original document

Driving Licence renewal

The Australian Embassy can witness signatures on and endorse photo’s for driver’s licence renewal forms, but does NOT renew the licences.

Please contact the relevant road authority in Australia to obtain the necessary forms for renewing your licence while residing overseas. Cost is per document certified and per signature witnessed.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA - Contact the Embassy to ensure the correct Diplomatic Officer is available to see you on the day. Under Western Australian Law only Diplomats can perform this service. All other States/Territories can be assisted by Consular Officers. Cost is per document certified and per signature witnessed. If you require a form to be witnessed and/or need identification documents certified, we can perform these functions for you (fees apply). You should check with your Australian representative what is required before seeking the services of an Australian mission overseas. If you require verification of identity for a property transaction, you must attend the mission with a prepared Client Authorisation or mortgage and Certification, original identification documents and the Subscriber or mortgagee's written instructions. It is a requirement that the instructions from your legal representative in Australia be provided in addition to the documents you need witnessed or certified. Australian consular officers will provide you with a DFAT Certificate of Identity confirming that they have witnessed and certified your documents in accordance with the instructions from your legal representative. Where instructions from your legal representative are not provided, the services will be declined.

Witnessing and swearing of affidavits, oaths or affirmations

The precise form that an affidavit takes is dictated by the relevant Commonwealth, state or territory legislation under which the affidavit is made or the proceedings in which the evidence contained in the affidavit is to be relied on. An affidavit that has not been drawn up correctly may not be legally effective. It is your responsibility to provide the document/s in the correct form and to provide any additional witnessing/administering instructions which should have been provided to you. Please obtain clear instructions from your legal advisor or the entity requiring the affidavit before attending the Australian diplomatic or consular mission. DFAT does not provide legal advice and takes no responsibility for the correctness of the form of an affidavit. Cost is per signature.

Please be aware that if you plan to visit the Embassy, you must book an appointment and bring valid photo identification for security screening.

Only ONE application form per appointment will be accepted. Your application form MUST be completed prior to arrival, with supporting documents listed on our website. Please also check our website as you may be eligible for a postal application service for an adult PC7 renewal or a child's PC8 renewal.

For security reasons, we ask that you keep travel bags, including hand bags, to a minimum when visiting the Embassy.

Payment can only be made by credit or debit card.
